Reflecting on my first month teaching..

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my blog!  I am pleased to announce that I am now officially a teacher! I graduated 3 years ago and had the hardest time finding a teaching position. I am sure many of you faced a similar dilemma with what our economy has been through the last few years. Still, I never gave up and now a great school has given me the opportunity to flex my teaching muscles! I cannot believe the time has finally come where I am actually doing what I studied to do. Needless to say, I am so thankful and SO happy.

As for the first month...It's been amazing. My students are great! Most of them are English Language Learners, and I can tell that most of them really want to learn the language.

I guess I should give you some background: I got my multiple subject teaching credential so that I could work at an elementary school. What I am doing now is actually teaching at a high school for students ages 18-25. I know, it is definitely not what I went to school for. And to be honest I didn't know if I was going to like it or not. It turns out I LOVE it. The students are really great. Most are at a very low level so I still teach similar things that I would in an elementary school (examples below).

I'm also very thankful for a heaven sent colleague, who you will meet soon! She is so supportive and we have become fast friends. She definitely made my transition into teaching much smoother. That's all for now, but I want to hear from all of you out there! Is it your first year teaching? How is it going? Are you a more seasoned teacher?
I'd also love advice from you teachers out there!
